Polar Puffs & Cakes Brings Back Discontinued Cake And More For National Day 2026

Written by Kelly Khor

One of Polar Puffs & Cakes’ most requested discontinued products is making a comeback. For National Day 2026, the homegrown bakery is bringing back the Old Polar Cake, alongside the Chicken Rendang Puff and Rainbow Gula Melaka Cake for a limited time.

The discontinued Old Polar Cake is back

The Old Polar Cake has been off the shelves for years, but customers have continued asking Polar to bring it back.

According to the bakery, some requests came from customers hoping to surprise elderly parents or grandparents who remembered the cake from decades ago. Others wanted to serve it to residents at senior homes, where the familiar flavour still carries plenty of nostalgia.

Available from 1 to 31 August 2026, the Old Polar Cake (Mini) 2026 Edition is priced at S$6.20.

The refreshed version features a light buttery sponge coated in smooth Bettercream and almond slices. Bettercream gives the cake a lighter texture and is less sweet than traditional cream, while keeping the familiar taste longtime fans remember.

The Chicken Rendang Puff is making a return too

Another returning favourite is the Chicken Rendang Puff, priced at S$3.70 each and available from 20 July 2026 for a limited time. It pairs Polar’s signature crispy pastry with tender chicken simmered in rendang sauce, giving the familiar puff a richer and more aromatic filling.

A colourful cake also returns for a limited time

The Rainbow Gula Melaka Cake is also part of the National Day lineup.

Priced at S$19.80, the 450g cake serves around four to six people. It combines soft rainbow chiffon layers with subtle pandan and gula melaka flavours, making it an easy sharing cake for family gatherings.

Polar has been part of Singapore’s food history since 1926

Polar Puffs & Cakes started as a single shophouse café at 51 High Street before growing into a bakery chain with outlets across Singapore.

Its original High Street café was once frequented by prominent figures including Lee Kuan Yew, Goh Keng Swee and Lim Bo Seng. Archival records also suggest High Street was a popular dating destination, with Polar serving curry puffs by the plate.
