Singapore’s First 2D Café Looks Like You Stepped Into A Cartoon

Written by Jon Phay

Imagine walking into a café and suddenly everything looks like it was drawn with a pen. That’s exactly what you get at Café Monochrome, Singapore’s first 2D café, where the entire space is designed to look like a black and white sketch come to life.

It Feels Like You’re Inside A Drawing

From the moment you step in, it’s a full visual illusion.

Tables, chairs, walls and décor are all outlined in bold black strokes against white surfaces, creating that flat comic style effect. It is the kind of place where your brain takes a second to process what is real.

There are also plenty of Instagrammable corners, so if you love taking photos, this place practically does half the work for you.

The café serves all day mains, specialty coffee, ice cream and cakes, so there is enough reason to stay beyond just snapping a few pictures. Expect to spend around S$25 per person for the experience.

Even Celebrities Have Been Here

Over the years, Café Monochrome has drawn plenty of attention for its unusual concept, with celebrities including JJ Lin having visited as well. It is easy to see why. There are not many places in Singapore where you can sip coffee inside something that looks like a life sized sketchbook.

📍 Café Monochrome — What You Need To Know

If the café looks familiar, that is because they previously had another outlet at Bugis. That outlet has since closed, which means this Chinatown location is now the only Café Monochrome outlet left in Singapore.
