The Seletar Mall Is Becoming an Overnight Skate Racecourse This May

For one weekend, from 7 to 10 May, The Seletar Mall is rolling out a four-day roller sports takeover, with the highlight being Singapore’s first-ever Skatecross Downmall Challenge.

The race will take place from 10pm on 8 May to 6am on 9 May, turning the mall into a multi-level obstacle course after dark.

An overnight race through the mall

Instead of a conventional race track, skaters will take on ramps, tight turns, technical sections and a custom-built giant escalator slide as they race across different levels of the mall.

The Skatecross Downmall Challenge will follow a time-trial format, where participants race against the clock and each other. Race categories include Weekend Warrior, Open, Women’s Open, Novice and Advanced, with the youth categories designed for participants aged 12 to 17.

You do not have to be a pro skater to join in

The weekend is not only for competitive skaters. From 7 to 10 May, visitors can head to the Level 1 Atrium for inline skating tryouts, with beginner and advanced areas set up for different experience levels.

For first-timers, small-group sessions will be guided by experienced instructors, and gear will be available for rent on-site. More confident skaters can enter the advanced area, where obstacles add an extra challenge.

Families can also look forward to activities for younger skaters. On 9 May, children aged 4 to 12 can take part in the Junior Rollercross Race, which includes an obstacle course and a 10-cone slalom challenge.

There will be performances too

If you prefer watching from the sidelines, there will be Rollercross performance demonstrations by young skaters on 9 May.
