If your family has been ordering the same dishes at Canton Paradise for years, your next visit could call for a longer look at the menu. The restaurant has introduced more than 20 new dishes in its first major menu refresh in a decade. These include crispy rice rolls with black truffle mushroom filling and a prawn and vermicelli claypot.
The additions join its existing selection of Hong Kong-style noodles, congee, roast meats and Cantonese dishes. Some dishes are also exclusive to the Alexandra Retail Centre and Marina Bay Sands outlets.
A crispy surprise inside these rice rolls
One of the new dim sum dishes gives chee cheong fun a crispy centre. The Steamed Duo Crispy Rice Roll with Prawn Filling and Black Truffle Mushroom Filling ($11.90) wraps a deep-fried crust inside a steamed rice sheet.
The dish comes with two fillings: prawn with asparagus, and wild mushrooms cooked in black truffle sauce. Each one combines a soft outer layer with a crisp bite inside. Other new dim sum options include the Cordycep Flower and Chinese Chive Dumpling ($8.90). There is also a Crispy Radish Pastry with Celery and Bacon ($6.90).

Prawns, pepper and vermicelli come together in a claypot
For a dish to share, consider the Stewed Prawn and Vermicelli with Black and White Pepper in Claypot ($29.90). It brings prawns and vermicelli together in a chicken broth flavoured with Sabah black and white pepper.
Another seafood option is the Braised Flounder with Pork Belly, Fish Tofu and Garlic ($27.90). The dish combines flounder with roast pork belly, fish tofu, shiitake mushrooms and whole garlic cloves. Its braising sauce contains chicken broth, oyster sauce and Chu Hou sauce. Order some steamed rice if you want something to soak it up.
Meanwhile, the Mapo Tofu with Prawn ($18.90) gives the Sichuan dish a seafood twist. It pairs tofu and prawns in a spicy sauce. There is also Stir-fried Pork Collar with Organic Cauliflower ($19.90) for the table.
