Gone are the days where people met through clubbing or awkward networking sessions. Now, Singaporeans are bonding over things like running clubs, pottery classes, hiking groups and apparently… mahjong plus pickleball.
On 26 June 2026, a social event in Serangoon is bringing together mahjong lovers, pickleball beginners, sporty extroverts and indoor game specialists for one chaotic Friday night designed entirely around meeting new people.

You’ll Rotate Between Mahjong Tables & Pickleball Courts
The 2 hour event runs from 8pm to 10pm, with participants rotating between mahjong and pickleball sessions throughout the night.
A total of 32 people will be split into 2 groups of 16 participants each. Group A will start at the mahjong station, while Group B will start at the pickleball station.
There will be 4 mahjong tables and 4 pickleball courts, with everyone rotating every 30 minutes so participants get equal time at both stations.
Don’t worry if you’ve never played pickleball and mahjong before. There’ll be instructors guiding both activities, so beginners are completely welcome.

The entire format feels less like a sports competition and more like a casual social event designed for people who want to meet others without the pressure of a dating app or formal mixer.
Because somehow, conversations become less awkward when everybody is distracted by flying balls and mahjong tiles.

If you’re imagining a quiet community centre mahjong session with retirees, this is not that vibe.

The Organisers Have Been Hosting Similar Social Events In Singapore
The event is organised by Play! Pickle, an indoor pickleball venue in Serangoon that has become known for its themed community events and social nights.
Beyond regular court bookings, they’ve also organised lifestyle focused events designed to help people meet others through games and shared activities. Previous events have included ladies nights, community pickleball sessions and social mixers for different groups.
Tickets Are S$58
Tickets cost S$58 per person, with entry confirmed only after successful payment and registration.
Participants are also encouraged to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early for briefing and group allocation.

Each ticket includes access to the air conditioned courts, 4 pickleball courts with structured rotations, 4 mahjong tables with tiles, 1 pickleball instructor, 1 mahjong instructor and all equipment needed for the event.
Participants only need to bring:
- Comfortable sports attire
- Non-marking court shoes
- A favourite paddle, if they have one
- Enough social energy to survive meeting 31 strangers
