New National Day Light Installations Debut Across Bras Basah And Bugis

Written by Kelly Khor

Looking for something different after the National Day fireworks? A new free light trail is debuting across Bras Basah and Bugis, transforming familiar streets and public spaces with installations inspired by Singapore folklore, shared memories and local stories.

Running from 1 August to 5 September 2026, Light Together Bras Basah Bugis spreads five light and digital installations across the precinct instead of a single festival site. As a result, visitors can explore one of Singapore’s oldest arts and heritage districts on foot after sunset.

Five Free Light Installations Across Bras Basah And Bugis

The trail connects five locations across the precinct, making it easy to fit into an evening out.

  • Artsplace @ Waterloo Centre
  • Reflection Pool at Bras Basah MRT Station
  • Stamford Place
  • Stamford Walkway
  • National Museum of Singapore (1 to 12 August only)

A Playful Tribute To A Singaporean Rain Superstition

One of the highlights is Better plant chilli so it won’t rain! by Arup. The installation draws inspiration from the familiar belief that planting a chilli upside down can stop the rain. Whether you grew up hearing the saying or only learnt about it recently, it remains one of Singapore’s best-known pieces of folklore.

Meanwhile, the installation joins four other light and digital experiences that reinterpret local myths, traditions and stories across Bras Basah and Bugis, encouraging visitors to see familiar spaces from a different perspective.
