The campaign runs from 18 September 2026 to 28 February 2027, or while stocks last, whichever comes first. If Fukuoka is already on your itinerary, this could be a reason to venture further south. Flights, accommodation and the return train journey remain separate expenses, so factor those into your budget.
Things to do in Kagoshima
Kagoshima offers a change of pace from Japan’s big-city shopping districts, with volcano views, hot springs and local food shaping the itinerary. Visit Sakurajima, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, or try a natural sand bath, where warm sand replaces the usual hot spring soak. For a dose of culture, explore Kirishima Shrine, a designated National Treasure, and the prefecture’s samurai heritage. Between stops, make room for Kagoshima Wagyu, black pork, yellowtail, amberjack and eel.
With more time, extend your stay to Yakushima, Amami Oshima or Tokunoshima, which have areas recognised as part of UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites. These islands require separate onward travel, so plan them as an addition to your Kagoshima itinerary beyond the complimentary train journey.
