This Dinner in Singapore Promises New Friends But Does It Really Deliver

Written by Dania Rae

Making new friends in Singapore sounds easy until you actually try. Most people stick to their own circles, and even at “social” events, conversations rarely go beyond surface level.

Fat Prince Singapore is trying to change that with The Majlis, a communal dining experience built around one idea. Put strangers at the same table, feed them well, and see if real connections happen.

It sounds simple. But does it actually work?

The Upcoming Meet Up

Happening on 30 April from 7pm, this social dining event is organised with WESHARE, an app designed to connect like minded people through curated experiences. Instead of separate tables, everyone sits together in one long communal setup.

There are no games, no hosts forcing interaction, and no structured icebreakers. You are expected to talk, or not. That freedom is the biggest appeal, and also the biggest risk.

If the group is open and social, the night flows easily. If not, it can feel like a very long dinner with strangers.

What You Can Actually Do There

At its core, you are here to talk.

That is the entire experience. You sit, eat, and interact with people you have never met before. There is no backup plan if the conversation falls flat.

This makes The Majlis feel less like a dinner and more like a social gamble. You are paying for the chance to meet interesting people.

For extroverts, this is easy. For introverts, it might feel like being thrown into the deep end without a script.

There is also a bigger question. In a city where people tend to be reserved, will strangers actually open up? Or will most stick to polite small talk and leave?

The concept works, but only if the people do.

What Type of Food Is Available

The menu leans into Middle Eastern sharing plates, designed to get people interacting naturally.

It starts with house baked pita and Egyptian rolls with date butter, alongside cashew hummus and muhammara. These are familiar, easy dishes that encourage passing and sharing.

Small plates include fried cauliflower with jalapeno zhoug and fattoush. For mains, there is grilled Dover sole and braised lamb shoulder with mandi rice, plus fried Brussels sprouts. Dessert is a Dubai chocolate knafeh.
