Edwin Goh and Rachel Wan Turn Crochet Into Conversations About Mental Wellness at This Free Singapore Exhibition

Written by Kelly Khor

At a new free showcase at grovve in *SCAPE, actors Edwin Goh and Rachel Wan aren’t displaying paintings or sculptures. Instead, they’re inviting Singaporeans into one of the most personal chapters of their lives through crochet.

The exhibition, titled Begin Again, features nine handcrafted crochet fashion pieces inspired by the couple’s own experiences with grief, burnout, healing and starting over. More than just wearable art, each piece explores emotions that many young Singaporeans quietly struggle with but rarely talk about.

In a society where conversations about mental health are becoming increasingly important, this exhibition offers something refreshingly different: instead of asking visitors to simply look at art, it invites them to reflect on their own journeys.

Nine Crochet Pieces That Represent Different Emotional Journeys

Rather than creating decorative garments, Edwin and Rachel designed each crochet piece around an emotional experience that many people may recognise. One standout design begins with a neat, structured silhouette before gradually loosening and unravelling. The piece represents how identity constantly changes throughout life, especially during periods of uncertainty.

The Rorschach piece is inspired by the famous psychological inkblot test, this design explores how two people can experience the exact same situation but interpret it completely differently. It serves as a reminder that everyone’s mental health journey is unique.

The remaining pieces continue similar themes of vulnerability, hope and rebuilding, encouraging visitors to think about their own experiences instead of simply admiring the craftsmanship.

A Free Exhibition Designed for Reflection

Running from 1 July to 31 August 2026, the exhibition is housed inside grovve, Singapore’s first integrated youth wellness centre located at *SCAPE.

Visitors can explore all nine crochet pieces up close while learning the personal stories behind each creation. The space has also been designed to encourage conversations around mental wellness, making it feel less like a traditional gallery and more like somewhere people can pause, reflect and reconnect.

Visitors can also vote for the crochet piece that resonates most with them. Every vote contributes towards a S$10,000 donation supporting Beyond the Label, a national movement promoting mental health awareness. Those who participate can also redeem a limited-edition crochet starter kit while stocks last, with five voters winning S$100 eCapitaVouchers.
