Just three months after Golden Village Tiong Bahru closed after 32 years, another familiar GV cinema is preparing to say goodbye. This time, it is Golden Village Plaza Singapura, which will close on 16 August 2026 after 28 years in operation.
For many Singaporeans, GV Plaza was never just another cinema. It was the Orchard Road movie spot you ended up at after school, after work, before dinner, after dinner, or whenever someone in the group chat said, “Plaza Sing got showtime.”
Now, that very familiar escalator route to the cinema is about to become a memory.
Golden Village Plaza Singapura Will Close In August 2026
Golden Village has announced that its Plaza Singapura cinema will wind down operations in phases as the mall prepares for a major revamp.
- Six cinema halls will have their final screenings on 2 August 2026.
- The remaining halls will continue operating until the cinema’s last day on 16 August 2026.
The cinema first opened in 1998, making it a 28 year fixture at one of Singapore’s busiest malls.
There Will Be A Farewell Giveaway For Moviegoers
From 1 July to 16 August 2026, customers who buy two or more tickets in a single online transaction for screenings at GV Plaza may receive an e-voucher for either a free Regular Popcorn or Regular Coca Cola.
A total of 10,000 rewards will be given out. The vouchers will be randomly assigned and emailed after 16 August 2026.
The redemption period runs from 17 August to 31 October 2026, and vouchers can be used at any Golden Village cinema with the purchase of two movie tickets in a single transaction.

Golden Village is also inviting moviegoers to share their favourite GV Plaza memories on Instagram.
To take part, participants need to follow @gvmovieclub, post a photo or video sharing their favourite memory, movie or experience at GV Plaza Singapura, tag @gvmovieclub, and include the hashtag #ThankYouGVPlaza.
One winner will receive a private cinema hall booking at GV Cineleisure for up to 60 guests. The screening will take place between 17 August and 31 October 2026, on a weekday evening, subject to availability.

Golden Village has also shared that it will continue introducing other entertainment formats across its cinemas, including live viewing concerts, VR screenings, fan meetings, corporate events and private parties.
