Beijing’s Famous 5 Hour Queue Roast Duck Restaurant Opens Flagship Singapore Outlet At WEAVE Sentosa

Peking Chamber Brings Beijing’s Famous Roast Duck To WEAVE

For many travellers visiting Beijing, dining at Peking Chamber (四季民福) is a bucket list experience. Its flagship restaurant near the Forbidden City regularly draws queues of up to five hours. Many diners happily wait for what they consider one of Beijing’s best roast ducks. Fortunately, Singaporeans can now skip the flight and the legendary queue. Peking Chamber has opened its first Singapore outlet at WEAVE, Resorts World Sentosa.

Founded in 2008, Peking Chamber has grown into one of China’s best known restaurant brands. Today, it operates across Beijing and Shanghai. It has also appeared on Dianping’s Must Eat List for nine consecutive years. Over the years, celebrities including Guan Xiaotong, Tan Jianci, Tiger Hu and i-dle’s Song Yuqi have dined there.

Why People Queue Up To 5 Hours For Peking Chamber

First, chefs air dry every duck. They then roast it over fruitwood in a traditional hanging oven. This method creates crisp golden skin, juicy meat and a subtle smoky aroma that has become synonymous with Peking Chamber.

A whole duck costs S$118, while a half duck is S$68. Staff carve every duck tableside. They also guide diners through the restaurant’s signature way of enjoying it.

There’s More Than One Way To Enjoy The Roast Duck

  • Start by tasting the crispy duck skin with white sugar, a traditional pairing that highlights its caramelised flavour.
  • Next, enjoy the duck meat with mashed garlic to appreciate its natural savoury taste.
  • Then, wrap slices of duck with sweet bean sauce, scallions and pickled vegetables using the traditional “baby folding method”.
  • For a lighter twist, try the duck with the restaurant’s signature begonia plum sauce from Beijing, together with Hami melon and cucumber.

In addition, diners who order a whole duck can turn the remaining bones into a second dish for an additional S$15. You can choose between Deep Fried Duck Bones with Spiced Salt or a comforting Duck Bone Soup.

More Than Just A Roast Duck Restaurant

While the roast duck steals the spotlight, Peking Chamber also serves classic Beijing and Shandong dishes. Therefore, it is a good pick for diners who want more than the usual Chinese restaurant staples.

One highlight is the Selected Grilled Lamb with Scallion (S$45). The kitchen serves it in a copper vessel imported from Beijing. Another standout is the Braised Sea Cucumber with Scallion (from S$68). This classic Shandong dish uses Dalian sea cucumber and premium Zhangqiu scallions.

Other dishes worth trying include:

  • Deep Fried Shrimp with Honey Sauce
  • Traditional Beijing Soy Paste Noodles
  • Deep Fried Crispy Baby Eggplant
  • Stewed Chinese Cabbage and Chestnut in Thick Soup
  • Sesame Seed Cake Stuffed with Minced Pork

Don’t Miss The Traditional Beijing Desserts

Finally, end your meal with the Beijing Style Snacks Platter (S$38). It includes five handmade traditional pastries in one serving. Expect favourites such as Lüdagun, Pea Flour Cake, Kidney Bean Roll, Aiwowo and Red Bean Cake. Together, they offer a nostalgic taste of Beijing that is rarely found in Singapore.

A Refreshed Menu For Its First Anniversary

Meanwhile, Peking Chamber is celebrating its first anniversary in Singapore with a refreshed menu. It features the brand’s “4 Signature Classics” and “6 Must Order Signatures”. As a result, first time diners can explore the restaurant’s best known dishes more easily.

4 Signature Classics 6 Must Order Signatures

Is Peking Chamber Worth Visiting?

Singapore has plenty of restaurants serving Peking duck. However, few arrive with the reputation of Peking Chamber. Its hanging oven roasting technique, tableside carving ritual and Beijing recipes have made it one of China’s most talked about dining destinations.

Overall, Peking Chamber is worth considering for group dinners, family meals or a more special Chinese restaurant experience. It also gives Singapore diners a chance to try the restaurant that Beijing locals and tourists queue for, without leaving the country.
