Janice Wong’s New Mid Autumn Mooncakes Come in a Lantern You’ll Actually Want to Keep

Written by Jon Phay

Chef artist Janice Wong is reimagining Mid Autumn gifting with a collectible wooden lantern that stays useful long after the mooncakes are gone.

This year’s collection pairs edible art with functional design. Besides eight new baked mooncakes, it also includes her signature chocolate mooncakes and a limited edition wooden lantern that doubles as a display piece and serving set.

Eight Baked Mooncake Flavours Split Into Two Collections

This year’s baked mooncake range comes in two collections. While one focuses on delicate floral and tea inspired flavours, the other gives familiar favourites a contemporary twist through unexpected ingredient pairings.

New Floral & Tea Collection

  • Osmanthus Honey
  • Jasmine Green Tea
  • Hibiscus Yuzu
  • Milk Oolong Bergamot Peel

Together, the four flavours combine floral aromas with citrus and premium teas, making them a lighter alternative to conventional lotus paste mooncakes.

Signature Baked Collection

  • Black Sesame Pecan Tangerine Peel
  • Chocolate Sea Salt Black Truffle
  • Pistachio Longan Red Date
  • Salted Egg

Meanwhile, traditionalists can still enjoy salted egg, while adventurous eaters can try combinations featuring nuts, chocolate, truffle and dried fruits.

Both baked collections are available at S$49 for a tin of four.

Chocolate Mooncakes Continue to Blur the Line Between Dessert and Art

Beyond the baked range, Janice Wong’s colourful chocolate mooncakes also return. Each piece features a hand painted floral shell inspired by edible art.

This year’s collection includes:

  • Pistachio Yuzu Salted Caramel
  • Yuan Yang Brown Rice Tea Hazelnut
  • Aged Pu’Er Mandarin Lotus Seed Praline Sea Salt
  • Malted Chocolate Bergamot Earl Grey

In addition, the flavours combine familiar Asian ingredients with pastry techniques more commonly found in fine dining desserts.

Chocolate mooncakes are priced at S$49 for a box of four or S$70 for a box of eight.

A Fashion Collaboration Joins the Mid Autumn Collection

The collection doesn’t stop at mooncakes. It also extends into fashion through a collaboration with leather goods label Mathilde.

Selected handcrafted leather pieces feature Janice Wong’s signature flowing brushstrokes in shades of crimson and pink. As a result, the collaboration turns everyday accessories into limited edition wearable artworks.
