Madeleine’s Original Portuguese Egg Tarts is finally back, and this time, it is returning with a bigger dining concept.
The Tanjong Katong favourite will reopen on 21 June 2026 at Aperia Mall as a modern Macau-style café. Fans can still expect its signature Portuguese egg tarts, but the new outlet will also serve Macanese-inspired comfort food, from pork chop buns to crab congee.
The comeback is led by 18-year-old baking enthusiast Vernice Olivia Ong, who worked closely with the original founders to bring back the recipe and spirit of the old shop.
The Portuguese Egg Tarts Are A Must-Try
Madeleine’s first opened in 1998 and became known for its flaky Portuguese egg tarts. However, the brand closed in 2024 after the founders retired.
Now, its famous egg tarts are back. Each tart comes with a 128-layer crust and smooth egg custard filling. The team makes the crust and custard in-house, and the tarts are baked fresh daily.
Purists can go straight for the original tart. Meanwhile, diners who want something new can try the Gula Melaka Portuguese Egg Tart, which adds a local caramel note to the classic custard tart.
There is also the Po Tat à la Mode, which pairs the egg tart with hay-smoked ice cream and milk crumbs.
Not Just Egg Tarts Anymore
Madeleine’s is no longer just a takeaway bakery. Instead, it has become a sit-down café inspired by Macau’s teahouse eatery culture.
As a result, the menu now goes beyond pastries, with casual comfort dishes influenced by Macanese flavours.
The Bolo Bun comes with flavoured butter and vanilla cream. On the savoury side, the Pork Chop Bun is paired with mustard seed sauerkraut and sweet shoyu glaze.

The Most Unexpected Dish Might Be The Quail
For diners who want something less common, the limited-time Pan Roasted Quail may be worth ordering.
The dish takes inspiration from Macau’s famous pigeon speciality. However, Madeleine’s uses quail instead, which has a milder and more delicate flavour.
The quail comes with garlic sriracha, ground roasted rice powder and charred lemon. It is priced at S$15, with a half portion available at S$8.

Besides that, diners can also try Crab Congee topped with an onsen egg. Another highlight is the Minchee Rice, a classic Macanese dish reworked with beef and pork Asian ragu, a 63-degree onsen egg and potato confit. A vegetarian version is also available.
Affordable Café Food With No GST
Another reason to visit is the pricing. Madeleine’s says there will be no GST, and many dishes are kept under S$11.
Desserts are also simple and affordable. The Coated Tropical Fruits and Coconut Tapioca Pudding are both priced at S$4.90.
Because of this, the new Madeleine’s feels more like an everyday comfort food spot than a special-occasion café.
