Singapore’s First Tim Ho Wan Is Closing After 13 Years — And Fans Can Say Goodbye With A S$68 Farewell Feast

Written by Jon Phay

Back in April 2013, Tim Ho Wan’s arrival at Plaza Singapura sparked a phenomenon that few restaurant openings in Singapore have managed to replicate. Diners queued for up to three hours for a chance to try the Hong Kong brand’s famous baked BBQ pork buns, drawn by its reputation as the world’s most affordable Michelin-starred restaurant.

Now, after more than 13 years at Dhoby Ghaut, Tim Ho Wan’s Plaza Singapura flagship outlet will officially close on 12 July 2026. The closure marks the end of the brand’s first overseas outlet outside Hong Kong and a restaurant that played a significant role in shaping Singapore’s appetite for Hong Kong-style dim sum. The move comes as Plaza Singapura prepares for its upcoming rejuvenation and redevelopment plans.

A Nostalgic Farewell Dinner Is Happening On The Final Night

Rather than quietly shutting its doors, Tim Ho Wan is turning its final day into a celebration.

On 12 July 2026, the restaurant will host a special appreciation dinner at Plaza Singapura, bringing together longtime customers, partners and supporters who have been part of its 13-year journey.

Priced at S$68 per person, the one-night-only event includes:

  • Free-flow selected dim sum
  • Free-flow beverages
  • Live music performances
  • Exclusive merchandise
  • A S$30 Tim Ho Wan voucher
  • Goodie bags for attendees

13 Days Of Discounts Before The Closure

From 30 June to 12 July 2026, Tim Ho Wan will launch a “13 Days of Gratitude” campaign, featuring a different signature dish at 30% off each day.

Some of the featured favourites include:

  • Baked BBQ Pork Buns
  • Pork & Shrimp Dumplings
  • Steamed Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce
  • Steamed Pork Ribs with Black Bean Sauce
  • Spinach Dumplings with Shrimp
  • Steamed Golden Lava Salted Egg Buns

The rotating promotion gives regulars a reason to revisit the restaurant one last time and relive the dishes that helped build its reputation.

A Memory Wall For Singaporeans To Leave Their Mark

Tim Ho Wan is also inviting customers to share their memories of the Plaza Singapura outlet before it closes.

Diners can contribute photos and personal messages to a dedicated memory wall, creating a collective scrapbook of experiences accumulated over more than a decade.

There will also be a themed photo backdrop where customers can snap farewell pictures and share them online using the hashtag #THWPlazaMemories.

Limited-edition sticker sheets and return vouchers will also be given out as commemorative keepsakes while stocks last.

Another Singapore Icon Joins A Growing List Of Closures

While the closure of Tim Ho Wan’s flagship Plaza Singapura outlet may come as a surprise to many, it is part of a growing trend of long-standing Singapore establishments bidding farewell in recent years.

Earlier this year, Golden Village Tiong Bahru closed after 32 years, ending the run of one of Singapore’s most nostalgic neighbourhood cinemas.

Before that, retail veteran BHG shut its Clementi outlet, while iconic attractions and businesses such as Snow City Singapore and beloved board game hangout The Mind Cafe’s original outlet also announced their closures.

Tim Ho Wan Plaza Singapura now joins that list of familiar names that helped define an era, reminding us how quickly Singapore’s landscape continues to evolve.
