New scoring system for PSLE, similar to the GCE O’Levels system

There will be a new scoring system for primary 6 pupils to get into their choice of secondary schools. This scoring system was first announced in 2016.

PSLE subjects will be scored using eight bands, also known as Achievement Levels (AL). There will be AL scores from 1 to 8 instead of grades from A to E.

The sum of the AL of each of the four subjects will be the total score. The best possible score would be 4.

In the event that two pupils have the same scores, Singapore citizens will have priority to enter the schools. In addition, a pupil who indicates a school as his first choice will have an advantage over someone who chooses it as the second or third choice.

With the new system being implemented, it is deemed to be less stressful than the old T-score system as the students will not know the true absolute score.
