New scoring system for PSLE, similar to the GCE O’Levels system

There will be a new scoring system for primary 6 pupils to get into their choice of secondary schools. This scoring system was first announced in 2016.

New PSLE Scoring System

Image from MOE

PSLE subjects will be scored using eight bands, also known as Achievement Levels (AL). There will be AL scores from 1 to 8 instead of grades from A to E.

The sum of the AL of each of the four subjects will be the total score. The best possible score would be 4.

Image from The Straits Times

In the event that two pupils have the same scores, Singapore citizens will have priority to enter the schools. In addition, a pupil who indicates a school as his first choice will have an advantage over someone who chooses it as the second or third choice.

With the new system being implemented, it is deemed to be less stressful than the old T-score system as the students will not know the true absolute score.

Singapore hopes to open travel bubble with 6 countries, including Taiwan

With the current COVID-19 situation becoming more stable, Singapore hopes to expand the air travel bubble with more countries.

Some of the other countries in which Singapore hopes to open the air travel bubbles include Australia, New Zealand, China, Brunei and Taiwan. The reason for doing so is because the spread of the Covid-19 virus is under control.

Currently, the Lion City has submitted a proposal to Taiwan and the authorities are currently studying it. If successfully, citizens from both cities can enjoy leisure travel without quarantine.

However, with the current pandemic situation, ups and downs may still be expected.

Currently, Singapore and Hong Kong have confirmed their two-way air travel bubble on May 26. Travellers would be able to travel quarantine-free. However, they are required to take the Covid-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test and obtain a negative result. Once they arrive at the Hong Kong airport, they must take the Covid-19 test and remain there until the results are out.
